Short version
We are having dance team auditions on January 25th, 2025
- Team 1 – Fusion Team (50% Salsa, 50% Bachata)
- Team 2 – Salsa Team (Intermediate)
You will learn a choreography and perform on stage at local socials or travel and perform on a bigger stage at dance congresses. 6–8-month commitment.
Long Version
Teams are a great way to learn and challenge yourself. We have been dancing on teams and directing teams for over a decade and have a streamlined process to run our dance teams. Almost all of you would be starting on one of our beginner dance teams. Since our studio teaches both Salsa and Bachata, we typically focus on a fusion choreography with 50% Salsa and 50% Bachata for these.
Difficulty/Commitment
All our teams have significantly more challenging choreographies than classes. Everyone is expected to start with our first level team since this is where you will be able to determine if this (lifestyle) is for you, and we can determine if you are a good fit for our studio’s team. We understand that everyone will have breaks in training for other important life events, but everyone will be expected to participate in 80% of practice sessions. If you are missing a significant number of practice sessions without giving us a heads-up, we will politely remove you from the team. If you miss practices, you will need to review our videos and catch-up on your own! For couples’ teams, we will avoid pair people up until we see who is committed and partner people up based on skill, chemistry and commitment levels.
Duration
The team will spend 4-5 months learning the choreography. Then we will spend 2-3 months performing the choreography and improving it before wrapping up the season. The entire season is expected to be 6-8 months.
Practices
Main practice will be on Sundays. The exact time windows are to be determined – expected times for the two teams are 12pm-2pm (Salsa team) and 3pm-5pm (Fusion Team). We will also be opening up the studio for an open practice session during the week where the team members can come and practice with each other on their own. This is likely to be Thursdays 9pm-11pm.
Performing
This season, everyone will be starting off as non-performers. You will need to show us the right kind of commitment and results to qualify to perform. In general, we will also be putting better performers in the front of show formations. These decisions will be made by the directors and are final.
